Pop Culture is a phenomena that is accepted by the mainstream society mainly used in the Western world.  This culture includes, music, fashion, people (celebrities or royalty) and sports.  Pop culture to me, is a fad or something that ever-changing  and sometimes comes back after a few decades.  For example, different clothing items or a type of music.  Pop Culture can be different things to different people, it is mainstream popularity.

  1. I like how you seperated the artifact from your definition of popular culture, very creative. ESPN is like a staple in the sports world and has definitely changed how people view sports. From food eating contests to Texas Hold'em, ESPN has it covered. What is one sport or event that ESPN could provide more coverage in your opinion?

  2. I think one of the ways you can define something as being a "popular culture artifact" is to see if there is some form of duplication.

I too believe that ESPN is a popular culture icon. As an example of my test, look at the 2004 movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. In the movie, the volleyball game is on the fictitious channel ESPN 8.
